Yarn Organization Hack! Armoire Craft Storage Makeover

Yarn Storage Makeover: Transforming an Armoire for Crafting ๐Ÿงถ✨

If you’re a yarn lover, you know how quickly your stash can get out of hand—skeins rolling around, tangled fibers, and half-finished projects hiding in corners. I used to struggle with the same thing... until I looked at my old armoire and saw its hidden potential. With a little creativity, I transformed it into the ultimate yarn storage solution, and today I’m sharing the full makeover process with you!

In this post—and in my YouTube Video—you’ll see how I turned a cluttered piece of furniture into a clean, organized, and inspiring storage unit for all things yarn and crafty.

๐Ÿช„ Why Choose an Armoire?

An armoire is a perfect solution for crafters short on space—or for anyone who wants to combine storage with style. Instead of investing in new shelving or bulky plastic bins, I repurposed what I already had, giving new life to a piece that was just collecting dust.

Benefits of using an armoire for yarn storage:

  • Keeps everything out of sight when closed

  • Offers vertical space for shelving and baskets

  • Adds charm and character to your craft room

  • Easy to customize for your unique stash

๐Ÿงบ The Makeover Process

Step 1: Clear Out and Plan
I started by emptying the armoire and taking inventory of my yarn. I sorted everything by type, weight, and color—this step alone helped me realize what I actually had and what I didn’t need.  While I may not have as much as some, but I had them in random bags around the house.  I needed help!

Step 2: Add Shelving and Storage Bins
I added adjustable shelves to make better use of the vertical space. Then, I brought in coordinating storage cubes.  You can label baskets to hold skeins, notions, and WIPs (works in progress).

Step 3: Display With Purpose
To make it feel cozy and creative, I displayed some yarn by color on open shelves and tucked the rest neatly into containers. I even left space for my favorite hooks, scissors, and pattern books.

Step 4: Final Touches
A few personal touches—like the rods I used to display my blankets—made it feel like a dedicated crafting nook, not just a closet full of supplies.  I went back and added an extension cord thru the back to be able to charge my neck light.  Now everything is one place!

๐Ÿงถ Organization Tips for Your Yarn Stash

  • Store yarn by weight or color for easy access

  • Use clear bins or open baskets so you can see what you have

  • Label everything—it saves time and keeps you sane

  • Don’t forget to leave space for tools and pattern storage

Final Thoughts

This armoire makeover completely changed the way I use and enjoy my craft supplies. Instead of digging through drawers or hunting for a missing skein, everything is easy to see, reach, and appreciate. And the best part? It adds beauty and functionality to my craft space.

If you’re struggling with yarn clutter, I hope this inspires you to look at your existing furniture with fresh eyes. Sometimes, a little reimagining is all it takes!
