Create A Mini Folio Keepsake Box Tutorial

DIY Mini Folio Keepsake Box | Paper Crafting Project

If you love creating mini folios, then you’ll love giving them a special place to live! Today I’m sharing how I crafted a custom keepsake box designed to hold a mini folio made from cardstock and patterned paper. This project is perfect for gifting, storing memory albums, or adding a beautiful handmade touch to your craft room shelves.

The best part? You can customize it to fit any theme- baby albums, Disney trips, weddings, or any folio you create.

✨ Supplies You Will Need

Here’s everything I used to make the keepsake box:

  • Scoreboard & Bone Folder – for creating crisp folds

  • 12x12 Cardstock – for the box base and flap

  • Patterned Paper – to decorate the box

  • Paper Trimmer

  • Adhesive of Choice (liquid glue or strong tape)

  • Scissors

  • Pencil & Ruler

✨ Project Overview

This keepsake box comes together quickly using simple scoring and folding techniques. The base is made from sturdy cardstock to support your mini folio, while the lid is crafted just slightly larger to fit perfectly over the top.

Base 12x12 score at 1" & 1 3/4" on a four sides
At the bottom cut out the left and right boxes then
cut a slit from the bottom up to the score line on left & right sides.
Add adhesive to the bottom side of the tab to glue to the inside of the bottom edge.

Cut one 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" cardstock for the cover.  Adhere to the top/sides.

For the flap: cut one piece 8 1/2" x 6".  Mark 1" down from 8 1/2" side on both sides.  Make a mark on the bottom edge at 4 1/4".  Put the piece in the paper trimmer.  Line up the top mark to the bottom mark at a diagonol and cut.

Add the flap to the bottom of the top piece and adhere on.  Include a velcro or magnet closure.

Once your box is assembled, you can decorate it with coordinating patterned paper, add embellishments that match your folio theme, or keep it simple and clean for a classic look. I love adding layered mats, die cuts, or even a label on the front to show what’s inside.

✨ Why Make a Keepsake Box?

Mini folios are special, and having a custom box to store them makes the entire project feel even more complete.
This box is:

  • Perfect for gifting

  • A beautiful way to store memories

  • Great for organizing albums by event

  • Fun to customize with your own creative style

If you enjoy paper crafting and making interactive books, this keepsake box is the perfect finishing touch.

✨ Final Thoughts

Creating a coordinating box for your mini folio adds that extra bit of magic to any project. With just a scoreboard, a few sheets of cardstock, and some patterned paper from your stash, you can build a beautiful and sturdy keepsake box that elevates your handmade albums.

Charlie Brown Mini Album WIP Project Share | Craft With Me

Peanuts WIP Mini Album Project Share | Craft With Me

Every crafter has that one project that starts with excitement and good intentions… then somehow ends up tucked away, waiting for its moment. This Peanuts-themed Charlie Brown & Knott’s Berry Farm mini album was one of mine. What began as a fun project months ago turned into something much more meaningful — a gift for a dear friend who moved away.

Today, I finally finished it. And honestly? It felt so good to bring it back to life.

✂️ A Special Project With a Special Story

My friend and I started this album together as a memory keeper for her family trip to Knott’s Berry Farm. We both love Peanut’s characters — Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Woodstock — and had picked out the cutest papers to begin building the structure.

Then life happened.
She moved away, and the project stayed behind in the craft room, patiently waiting.

I decided it was time to finish it for her and turn it into a sweet surprise gift. And that made the process even more meaningful.

๐ŸŽจ Creating Custom Embellishments

Since I didn’t have a Peanuts collection of papers or embellishments, I opened my Cricut and designed several Peanuts-themed embellishments to add personality and movement to the pages:

  • Charlie Brown

  • Snoopy

  • Woodstock and more

  • Knott’s Berry Farm title cuts

These handmade touches really brought the album together and made each page feel extra special.

๐Ÿ“š Interactive Mini Album Features

Like most of my mini albums, this one had to include plenty of spots for journaling, photos, and keepsakes. I built in:

  • Flip pages for extra photo space

  • Flaps to tuck under larger mats

  • Pockets to hold booklets, notes, or memorabilia

  • Pull-out tags for hidden journaling

  • Layered pages using patterned papers from my stash

Empty Album

Die Cut tabs for phot mat inserts

The interactive pieces make the album fun to flip through — every page reveals something new!

๐Ÿงต Shopping My Stash

Instead of buying new supplies, I challenged myself to finish the album using only what I already had:

  • Peanuts paper scraps

  • Coordinating Knott’s Berry Farm colors

  • Stickers and ephemera

  • Cardstock cut with Cricut

Not only did this keep the project budget friendly, but it also made me feel great about using up materials I’ve been holding on to.

๐ŸŽ A Heartfelt Finish

Watch my YouTube video to craft with me on this album:

Completing this WIP reminded me why I love crafting so much: it’s not just about paper and glue — it’s about making something meaningful.

This mini album isn’t perfect, but it’s full of heart. And I can’t wait to ship it to my friend so she can finally fill it with her favorite photos and memories.
